Celebrate National Color Day with Oak Hill Dry Cleaners

national color day

Today is National Color Day, an event focused on the affect color has on us.

It is hard to imagine the world without color…including color in your wardrobe. Though the LBD (Little Black Dress) and the classic dark suit are iconic items in many wardrobes, many of us express ourselves through the colors we choose to wear. Sadly, laundering and caring for many garments causes their colors to fade. The good news is that there are many ways to preserve color in machine washable items, and you can always turn to dry cleaning for optimal color preservation.

As one expert said, “More and more items, even simple T-shirts and jeans, are labeled as ‘Dry Clean Only’. Many clothing manufacturers recommend the most conservative type of cleaning treatment of the fabric to ensure the best results for the consumer, and typically, that is dry cleaning.”

Not only does this maintain the quality and condition of the materials, but it also keeps colors as bright and fresh as possible.

The Importance of Color in Our Daily Lives

As we said, today is National Color Day and one enthusiastic celebrant wrote this about the day and its importance:

“On a late, crisp autumn morning, sparkling frost and leaves changing from green to vermillion signal a change of seasons. A flush of color in the cheeks of a friend signs a cue of her embarrassment. The streetlight turns from green to yellow to red…Imagine a world without chrysocolla. This mineral formed from hydrated copper phyllosilicate develops colors from a brilliant cyan to jade green. From darkening skies before a storm to the undulating fragile glow of the aurora borealis, color in nature moves us…Colors accent our homes and feed our creativity, allowing us to express ourselves. Open a box of crayons or watercolors, and artists of any age lose themselves in a world of their own creation for hours.”

How will you celebrate #NationalColorDay?

Why not expand or explore the use of color in your life, home, workplace, and closet! What’s your favorite color?  Take in the vast and ever-changing array of shades available to you and then use your favorites to create a setting that boosts your mood, soothes your soul and allows you to authentically express yourself through color. How?

  • Buy some new bed linens or curtains in shades that inspire

  • Invest in one or two new items for the wardrobe – the tie or scarf that pops with color, the sweater that warms and expresses your style, the dress or dapper vest that says you love that particular shade or hue

  • Add a few accent pieces to the home décor – buy a new tablecloth or some placements and napkins, toss a few colorful pillows on the sofa, add a new wall hanging or small runner rug to the bedroom

Don’t forget to protect your favorite garments and household linens’ colors by having them handling with the level of TLC that Oak Hill Dry Cleaners uses on every item received. Talk with us about your concerns and we will strive to preserve and even enhance those bright, subtle, and important colors for years to come!
