Wear White Before Memorial Day (and After Labor Day) and Whenever the Heck You’d Like…

There are no real rules to fashion, except for things like wearing the same shoes, hats belonging on your head, and wool sweaters are definitely OUT in the month of July (at least in the Northern Hemisphere). Yet, many of us still cling to the rule that we are not supposed to wear white before Memorial Day (and after Labor Day).

Why does this rule persist? It doesn’t, really. The famous Coco Chanel broke it repeatedly throughout her years designing fashion, and lots of brands make winter white garments, too.

So, where did it all start? If you are truly curious to know the answer, you can read this Reader’s Digest article about it, hinting that it had to do with social rank, difficulties with laundering, and even perspiration. Another article from Sweety High insists that it had to do with seasonal weather and the thinness of most naturally white garments in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The good news is that it always was (and forever remains) malarkey. So, go ahead and bust out those whites right now and be the fashion rebel you might always wanted to be, or have been, or intend to be. And if your whitest whites have yellowed a bit over the winter, or sprouted unusual stains while in their hibernation in a closet or storage box, you can get in touch with us for free home pickup and delivery. We can brighten those whites, tackle those stains, and help you get on trend (or make your own) quickly…even in time for Memorial Day.

And if you are planning a wedding and that vintage gown or family heirloom has lost its luster, we can restore even the most fragile garments and items.
